Delma’s Story

"The support and pleasure I get from everyone at Priscilla Bacon Lodge is outstanding."

Delma Elliott, an outpatient at Priscilla Bacon Lodge, kindly shared with us how visiting the day services for craft sessions has helped her and her husband:

“I have Motor Neurone Disease. I was referred to the Priscilla Bacon Lodge day services for coffee and crafts in the Spring of 2024.

When your husband suddenly becomes your carer, the dimensions change so much. Mostly, we are both quite positive, but occasionally we have moments where we both feel a bit lost. I don’t want to say too much in case he gets upset, he doesn’t want to ask too much in case I get upset. At Priscilla Bacon Lodge, we both feel supported.

In our craft sessions, I feel so safe. I know if I have a problem, the staff will help me. Sometimes, someone will open up about their medical issues and concerns, and we all know that we will be there for each other.

A few tears may be shed; but I can say, in all honestly, I have not attended once and come away without laughing! I look forward to seeing everyone in the group every week.

The support and pleasure I get from everyone at Priscilla Bacon Lodge is outstanding – the coffee is pretty good too! My heartfelt thanks go to everyone, staff and patients.”
